AT A GLANCE

The practical answer.

Review voltage, charging, loads, installation and system behavior before proposing a lithium replacement for lead-acid equipment.

Begin with the whole electrical system

A battery sold in the same nominal voltage class as a lead-acid unit is not automatically a direct replacement. Compare the complete voltage window with the equipment controller, accessories and protective devices. Document the minimum operating voltage and the maximum voltage the equipment can tolerate. Ask for the proposed lithium pack's chemistry, series arrangement, charge endpoint and discharge endpoint. Use the actual approved specification rather than a general rule about what a 12V, 24V or 48V label normally means.

Review every charging source

Equipment may charge from more than a standalone charger. There may be an alternator, solar controller, onboard power supply or regenerative drive involved. List each source and its operating behavior, including equalization, maintenance and temperature compensation settings where present. Ask the battery and equipment suppliers to confirm compatibility in writing. Do not reuse a lead-acid charging profile simply because the connector fits. Charging approval should cover the installed system and the exact battery model, including temperature-related restrictions and recovery from protective shutdown.

Look beyond the amp-hour comparison

Compare usable energy under the intended duty cycle, not just the printed Ah rating. Runtime depends on the operating voltage, load, permitted discharge range, temperature, conversion losses and reserve. Consider startup and sustained peak demands separately from average consumption. A pack with adequate energy can still be unsuitable if its continuous current rating or protection settings do not support the equipment. Ask for the relevant limits and test conditions, and verify performance in the intended installation before estimating service benefits.

Treat the enclosure as an integration task

Check mounting geometry, terminal access, cable length, polarity, clearance and service handling. A lighter replacement changes the mass distribution of some machines, which the equipment manufacturer should assess. If an enclosure or ingress rating is required, confirm the scope of the tested assembly, including connectors and vents. Review how the pack is isolated and protected in the installation. Multiple batteries should only be connected in series or parallel when the manufacturer explicitly permits the arrangement and the system has been designed for it.

Approve a conversion with evidence

Prepare a conversion checklist naming the equipment version, battery model, charger settings, wiring changes and validation results. Resolve the behavior of low-voltage shutdown, state-of-charge indication, fault recovery and storage before deployment. Ask which documents apply to the finished model and intended market. Jetray lists LiFePO4 packs among its product categories; the suitability of a specific replacement should be established through an agreed design review and representative testing. Expected lifecycle and commercial savings should follow documented assumptions rather than generic chemistry claims.

Bring these points into the inquiry.

Use the checklist to organize a project discussion, then request the exact model specification, drawing and relevant evidence.
